Employment Act Workshop

On 18 January 2018, the Ministry of Manpower announced the commencement of a public consultation period regarding potential amendments to the Employment Act. The last consultation period in 2012 resulted in significant changes to the coverage of the Employment Act, particularly with respect to professional, managerial and executive employees (PMEs). This review is shaping up to be more significant than the last, with a proposal to extend the Employment Act to all PMEs being considered.

During this session, Ashurst partner George Cooper and ADT Law managing director Dawn Tan will discuss the MOM's proposed amendments, the reaction of the NTUC and the possible impact of the proposed changes on Australian businesses operating in Singapore.

George Cooper has led Ashurst's Asia regional employment practice since 2011 and was based in Singapore between 2007 and 2016. George and his team advise large multinational employers in a range of sectors regarding Asia employment matters, with a specific focus on advising Australian companies on their Asia operations. He has particular experience dealing with the employment aspects of cross-border merger and acquisition transactions in Asia and international employment mobility worldwide.

Dawn Tan - Founding Director at Ashurst

Dawn Tan is the founding director of ADT Law LLC, Ashurst's Formal Law Alliance partner in Singapore. Dawn is an experienced commercial lawyer with particular experience and expertise in the resolution of complex and high-profile disputes, including employment.
