Excellence in Leaders with Michael Byrne, Managing Director of Toll Group

Digital, innovation and the future of logistics

Like most other industries, transport and logistics is currently facing immense disruption: new technology, new market entrants, new customer expectations, and new business models. There are many ways the sector could respond to meet these challenges, some evolutionary, others more revolutionary. In this discussion, Michael Byrne, Managing Director of global logistics company Toll Group, shares insights into how Toll Group is driving the largest ever transformation program in the company’s 130 year history to adapt to this new era and will explore some possible futures of the industry.

Michael Byrne, Managing Director of Toll Group

Michael Byrne was appointed Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Toll Holdings Limited on 1 January 2017. Michael’s appointment follows a distinguished 30 year career in executive positions both in Australia and internationally in the logistics, supply chain, retail and property sectors. Previous roles include Chief Executive Officer of Coates Hire, Linfox and Westgate Holdings, as well as Non-Executive Director of Australia Post.

Michael currently serves on the Ausgrid Asset, Management, Finance and Operator Partnership Boards. He also serves as a council member on the NSW Freight Advisory Council.
Previously, Michael has been on numerous government boards advising on transportation, infrastructure, food security and security matters. He has also held board positions with OzHarvest (a food charity) and education committees for Victoria University and the University of Denver.
