Panel Discussion - Singapore ASEAN Year

2018 has been an ASEAN-focused year, with Singapore just handing over the ASEAN chairmanship to Thailand and Australia having hosted the first ever Australia-ASEAN summit earlier in March. Join us as we wrap up the year with an expert filled panel discussion, focusing on areas including geopolitical, trade and economics trends impacting Singapore and the Region.


Katrina Nicholas, Team Leader Asia Investing, Bloomberg

Katrina Nicholas runs investing and real estate coverage in Asia for Bloomberg News. She was previously an editor for Bloomberg Opinion and prior to that, oversaw corporate finance news in the region. She has also worked for the Australian Financial Review, Sydney Morning Herald and Nine Network.


H.E. Bruce Gosper, Australian High Commissioner to Singapore

Bruce Gosper was previously CEO of Austrade, the Australian Government agency responsible for promoting trade, investment and international education, and tourism policy, programs and research. Prior to Austrade, Mr Gosper was Deputy Secretary with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Australia’s senior trade policy official, responsible for all trade negotiations. His career includes serving as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva. During that time Mr Gosper chaired the WTO General Council and the WTO Dispute Settlement Body. Mr Gosper was previously Minister (Commercial) in the Australian Embassy in Washington, and Minister-Counsellor (Agriculture) in the Tokyo Embassy.

Mr Gosper is a current member of the Asia Society Advisory Council. He has previously held positions on the Australia Japan Business Co-Operation Committee (AJBCC), the European Australian Business Council (EABC), the Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF), Australia Korea Foundation (AKF), Australian Pork Corporation and the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC) Board.

David Green, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore and Head of South East Asia, India & Middle East, ANZ

David is CEO Singapore and responsible for ANZ's business activities in India, Malaysia, Philippines and the GCC countries in the Middle East.

As CEO, David is accountable for ANZ's delivery of banking services in Singapore; maximising connectivity across the bank's network; and for coordinating the delivery of specialist banking capability and regional support for ANZ's business activities across the ASEAN region. With 30 years’ experience in banking, David has held roles in senior management and across a wide range of products and customer segments. Before his current role, David was Managing Director of ANZ’s Institutional business in New Zealand and Global Head of Wholesale Digital Strategy. David joined ANZ from Deutsche Bank in 2005, where he held a number of global banking roles in Australia and New Zealand across the Bank’s relationship banking, advisory and debt product activities in the region.

David is a Fellow and past Chair of the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand Inc. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, a past member of the executive board of the New Zealand China Council and a former Council Member of the Association of Banks in Singapore.

Deborah Elms, Founder and Executive Director, Asian Trade Centre

Dr Deborah Elms is the Founder and Executive Director of the Asian Trade Centre (ATC). She is Vice Chair of the Advisory Board for the Asia Business Trade Association (ABTA), Co-Chair of the Trade Policy Committee of the Global Trade Professionals Alliance (GTPA), and also a senior fellow in the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Trade Academy.

Previously, Dr Elms was head of the Temasek Foundation Centre for Trade & Negotiations (TFCTN) and Senior Fellow of International Political Economy at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
