The annual Australian Chamber of Commerce Singapore (AustCham) business awards for 2020 were presented at a virtual ceremony today.
Chris Coburn, AustCham President, said the awards celebrate the achievements of businesses and individuals who are leaders in their field.
“This year has been full of challenges, with our way of life being completely disrupted by COVID-19 and many businesses needing to adapt and show resilience under pressure,” he said.
“It is important for us to recognise the success stories and highlight areas where Australian business is continuing to push the boundaries and show exemplary leadership and innovation.”
The James Cook University Business Excellence Award was presented by Professor Chris Rudd OBE, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Head of Campus, Singapore. The award is presented to the organisation that has demonstrated the most outstanding performance in its field.
“James Cook University is proud to have been a leading member of the Australian Business Community in Singapore for the past 17 years and very happy to have worked in close partnership with Austcham to promote business opportunities for our members,” he said.
“We believe in delivering high quality business ready graduates with an international mindset and that focus on quality resonates strongly with our sponsorship of the 2020 Austcham Award for business excellence.
“It is my great pleasure to present the James Cook University Business Excellence Award 2020 to Telstra.”
Receiving the award on behalf Telstra, Todd Bates, Regional Lead – South Asia, thanked James Cook University and said the achievement was a credit to the team at Telstra.
“Telstra’s purpose is to connect businesses to Asia, and Asia to the world, supported by our people, partnerships and innovative technology,” he said.
“This award comes at what is a very interesting time for many of us when staying connected is more important than ever before. Singapore is of crucial strategic importance to Telstra as both a sales and delivery hub. It is home to our Network Operations Centre which is responsible for managing over 400,000km of cable systems that keep us connected every day, delivering up to 30 per cent of Asia’s Internet traffic”.
“This award is a great recognition of the hard work and dedication shown by our team here and I am honoured to receive the award on behalf of Telstra today.”
