The Australian Chamber of Commerce, Singapore today launched a fundraising effort to assist those communities affected by the devastating bushfires in Australia.

Working with the Singapore Red Cross through the Australian Bushfire Emergency Response campaign, AustCham is pushing to raise $1million on behalf of the Australian and international community in Singapore.

AustCham’s President, Andrew Brown, encouraged companies and individuals to get behind the campaign.

“The magnitude of the bushfires in Australia, following an extended period of severe drought, is unprecedented and the impact on regional communities is devastating,” he said.

“We know some of our members, their families and friends are being impacted by these events and our thoughts are with them. Unfortunately, there is no immediate end in sight.”

Mr Brown said along with extending our thoughts and well wishes to all Australians who are impacted, the Chamber wants to provide an opportunity for the community in Singapore to show their support through some fundraising initiatives.

“Our upcoming ANZ Australia Day Ball is the largest fundraising event for our Chamber and as a not for profit organisation we rely heavily on the support of our community through events like  this,” he said.

“This year we also want to use this event to raise funds for the Red Cross Australian Bushfire Emergency Response campaign.

“AustCham will hold a special auction on the night with 100% of the money raised by auction items going to the campaign. We will also donate 20% of our raffle ticket sales, as well as any profit we make from general ticket sales. We are offering a special table price for corporates who want to show their support where $2000 from that table price will go directly to the appeal.

“Home is never far from our thoughts and we know how well our community rallies together in times of crisis to support those in need.

“Australia and Singapore have a long history of collaboration and share a deep and strong relationship. We have been touched by the support shown by the Singapore government, members of the Singapore public and the wider community for our community in Australia affected by these devastating events.”
